Valea Zimbrilor (Bison Valley): A Sanctuary in the Heart of Vama Buzăului +video and views

Post by Laurentiu »

Located at the foot of the Ciucaș Mountains, Valea Zimbrilor in Vama Buzăului is one of the most beautiful and accessible places in Romania to see the majestic European bison. Unlike the deep mountain forests where bison roam completely wild, this sanctuary offers visitors a guaranteed chance to observe these giants in a vast, natural enclosure.

🌲 Why Visit Vama Buzăului?
This destination is ideal for families, photographers, and those who want to experience the quiet, rural charm of Transylvania. The scenery is breathtaking, with the bison grazing against a backdrop of rolling green hills and the jagged peaks of the Ciucaș massif (see more).

🏰 What You’ll See
  • The Bison: You can observe several families of bison, including calves born right here in the reservation.
  • Other Wildlife: The sanctuary is also home to red deer (cerbi) and fallow deer (lopătari), making it a mini-safari of Romanian wildlife.
  • The "Urlătoarea" Waterfall (see more): Just a short drive or walk away, you’ll find a unique waterfall that doesn't fall from a height, but rather "screams" out from several springs in a limestone wall.
⚠️ A Grounded Reminder
While the animals here are in a protected enclosure, they remain powerful and primitive creatures. Wild animals are unpredictable, even in sanctuaries. Always respect the fences, never try to feed the bison snacks from your backpack, and keep a respectful silence to observe their natural behavior.
